Summer 2014 Book Challenge: Month 1

button design by Kelsey

Welcome back, semi-charmed readers! If you've joined the summer 2014 book challenge, today is your first chance to check in and tell me what you've read so far. If you haven't joined yet but are intrigued by the idea of joining a fantabulously fun reading challenge with some awesome bloggers and blog-reading individuals, there's still time! Simply click here to read the rules and categories, and feel free to look back to May 1 and count any qualifying books you've read since then. Continue reading after the jump to learn how to check in with your progress.

Please comment on this post in the following format to check in. Please do not forget page numbers! Remember all books must be at least 200 pages long unless otherwise specified. You may also link to your reviews or own check-in post if you wish, but that is not required. We operate on the honor code here, but I would love to read your posts and/or reviews if you have them! However, I would like you to put a simple rating next to each book in your check-in post (on a scale of 1 to 5 stars) so other participants can get an idea of what books they would like to read for their "read a book someone else already used" category. (Thanks to Heather L. for this idea!)
5 points: Freebie! Read any book that is at least 200 pages long. — Where'd You Go, Bernadette, Maria Semple (330 pages, 3 stars)
15 points: Read a historical fiction book that does not take place in Europe. — One Thousand White Women, Jim Fergus (434 pages, 5 stars) [set in the United States]
25 points: Read a book written by a blogger. — Hyperbole and a Half, Allie Brosh (384 pages, 5 stars) [blog of the same name]
PREVIOUS POINTS: 0
TOTAL POINTS: 45
Fun fact: So far, I've stuck exactly to my preliminary list of books. However, this is probably because I already had said books checked out of the library and wanted to make them work. ;) I'm currently reading This Song Will Save Your Life, which I don't think fits any category yet, but I saw it on more than a few of my favorite book blogs, so I just had to pick it up.

Please record your progress thus far by June 10 in order to be included in the first scoreboard, which will be posted with the next check-in on July 1. Good luck!
